"Its been a pleasure to work with Emel and I admire and am grateful for her dedication to the work. Both parents and teachers of these children have given very positive feedback about their change in behaviour" Feedback from Supervisor in Place2Be (school-based children's charity)
I have a special interest in family work, and particularly in helping the parents of children with ADHD, autism, dyslexia and behaviour problems. These conditions can generate a great deal of anxiety for any parent, so I use my experience of working with schools, as well as my Postgraduate Diploma in counselling for children and adolescents to help parents navigate the unique demands of these conditions
The benefits of having parent counselling are:
The parenting role and responsibility can be very demanding, Parents do not just have to provide a safe and secure environment for their children, they have to meet their own needs and cope with their own struggles. Your early childhood issues related to your own personal history will likely to get triggered by your children. Sometimes your kids distressing emotions can feel overwhelming because its echoes old pain of your own. Parents counselling can provide an opportunity to understand your childhood’s unresolved emotions.
Freeing yourself from those past unresolved issues help you to connect your own feelings and you will start to develop your own inner security. This will empower you as a confident parents.
I worked with children with in school setting as a counsellor in various cases such as neglect, autism, adoption, dyslexia and behaviour problems. During my work with children I realised that parents are facing a number of difficulties in their family dynamic and in their social circumstances. Sometimes they suffer quietly when they were meeting their children's needs and sometimes they neglect their own needs.
I offer individual counselling for parents so you will be equipped with the skills and strategies to support your own mind and when you are supporting your family.
I have specifically trained with children and adolescents aged 3 - 18 at Birkbeck, University of London. I offer safe and confidential therapy to children and young people.
